Elon Musk threatened to ban Apple devices from his companies following the iPhone makers' partnership with OpenAI
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, stirred up commotion yet again by threatening a ban on the usage of Apple devices from his companies. His comments come right after Apple announced a partnership with OpenAI, which Musk labeled as "an unacceptable security violation."
In a thread post, Musk also mentioned that it is "patently absurd" that Apple, a technology giant, cannot develop its own artificial intelligence (AI) but has confidence in OpenAI's ability to safeguard user security and privacy.
This comes right after the iPhone maker announced the launch of "Apple Intelligence" on Monday at the Worldwide Developers Conference in California, held annually. Apple has unveiled multiple new AI-powered features through its partnership with OpenAI, as every firm plans to capitalise on the advanced technology.
"We're excited to partner with Apple to bring ChatGPT to their users in a new way. Apple shares our commitment to safety and innovation, and this partnership aligns with OpenAI's mission to make advanced AI accessible to everyone. Together with Apple, we're making it easier for people to benefit from what AI can offer," Sam Altman stated in a blog post.
In response to a post from Apple CEO Tim Cook, Musk said that unless Cook discontinues what he referred to as "creepy spyware," he would start prohibiting Apple devices from his company's premises. He also added that visitors to his companies would be required to leave their Apple devices at the door.
"If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies," he said.
Just a few days back, Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson accused OpenAI of using her voice without her consent, even after she refused for the same.
However, OpenAI later clarified that they actually used the voice of another actor, whose identity was kept anonymous.
