Open Network for Digital Commerce, the government-backed e-commerce initiative, has captured 3 percent of the food-order volumes managed by Zomato and Swiggy, according to its internal analysis.

As per Economic Times, ONDC now undertakes 60,000 orders per day in the food domain with its total order mounting to 400,000, which also includes mobility bookings.
“On July 7, 2024, ONDC set a new record with an impressive 38,000 orders per day in Bengaluru's food domain. This represents 17 percent of the daily order volumes of Swiggy and Zomato individually in the city when they each received 220,000 orders," ONDC said as reported by ET.
From February last year to this March, food and beverages accounted for more than 5.78 million orders placed on the platform.
The Equirus Securities India Equity Research report on banking, financial services and insurance stated that ONDC had recorded 10 million transactions in June with 6.1 million and 3.9 million in non-mobility and mobility transactions respectively.
The Network has also seen an increase of 1 million transactions in the last two months, exhibiting strong growth.
It is reported that Flipkart is in active talks with ONDC for integration in to its domain. This would help the commerce giants Flipkart venture into the food and beverages category in the ONDC ensuring that the users can order food from a variety of restaurants and fast-food outlets such as Dominos and McDonald’s.
lt is also in talks with the National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI), representing more than 500,000 restaurants for a flawless last-mile connectivity for food delivery, order tracking and discoverability, according to food services sector executives.
ONDC, was initiated by the government in January last year, to counter the hegemony of the ecommerce companies such as Amazon and Flipkart. It was developed by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade to develop open e-commerce
