Groceries will be reportedly delivered to at least seven to eight cities in the beginning.

Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries is planning to enter the quick commerce space and compete against Zomoto’s Blinkit, Swiggy’s Instamart, Zepto, and Tata Group’s Big Basket, as per a report by the Times of India.

Groceries will be reportedly delivered to at least seven to eight cities in the beginning. Eventually, JioMart will deliver groceries to more than 1,000 cities.

In March 2022, Reliance launched JioMart Express, a grocery delivery service that delivered groceries in ninety minutes. However, in 2023, it was stopped, as per the Economic Times.

Since the website is inactive, users cannot download the JioMart Express app from the Google Play Store. The Mumbai-based company, JioMart Express, debuted the service in Navi Mumbai with the intention of expanding it to around 200 places.

Now that the company is entering the quick commerce spree, it plans to deliver items within thirty minutes. It remains to be seen how the company will be able to compete with other quick commerce platforms who try to give faster delivery, at times within ten minutes.

Currently, JioMart has next-day and slotted delivery options for customers. With time, JioMart will reportedly offer non-grocery items as well. The diverse 18,000 store categories of Reliance Retail will help the company do the same.

While Instamart and Blinkit rely on dark stores, Reliance’s JioMart will depend on the vast network of fulfillment centers and stores provided by Reliance Retail. Interestingly, Flipkart is also planning to enter the quick commerce space.

As per a source who spoke to Entrackr, “Flipkart will launch 10-15-minute delivery in at least a dozen cities in the next six to eight weeks.” In several cities, including Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, the company is building a chain of dark stores.

The quick commerce space, which is now led by Blinkit with a 40–45 percent market share, will see an increase in competition with Reliance's entry.
