Tata Sons Prepares for Board Changes with Key Members Set to Retire

Tata Sons will soon decide on new appointments to its board, as some of its members are set to retire or leave like Bhaskar Bhat, Ralf Speth

Tata Sons will appoint new board members as some of its current members are expected retire, while some may step down as per the Economic Times report. Bhaskar Bhat, who is also the chairman of Tata SIA Airlines, will bid farewell to the board as he is set to retire on September 3. Additionally, there is a possibility that the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) director Ralf Speth, will resign soon. JLR is a fully-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors

Who are the members likely to retire or step down? 

Bhaskar Bhat 

Bhaskar Bhat is a B. Tech (mechanical engineering) graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras. He also holds a post graduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.  

He began his career a management trainee with Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Co. Nearly after 5 years of working with Godrej, in 1983, he joined the Tata watch project. His association with the group has been since then and has largely been associated with sales and marketing, as per the crunchbase.com site.

Bhat is set to retire today from the board. Apart from him, other board members like Harish Bhat, S Padmanabhan, Banmali Agrawala will either retire or exit. 

Ralf Speth 

Ralf Speth holds a degree in Economics Engineering from Rosenheim University, Germany. Additionally, he has a Doctorate of Engineering in mechanical engineering and business administration from Warwick University.

He started his career with BMW in 1980 as a business consultant and worked with them for nearly 20 years. He has worked with Ford Motor as Director of Production, Quality and Product Planning.  

In 2010, he was appointed as chief executive officer at Jaguar Land Rover and a non-executive director on the Tata Motors Board. 

Although no official announcement has been made, Speth is likely to step down from his soon.
