Zomato Restarts Intercity Legends, Discontinues 'Xtreme' Delivery Service: Report 

Food delivery giant Zomato has reportedly re-started its Intercity Legend service after a brief pause. Additionally, Zomato has shut down 'Xtreme', its hyperlocal delivery platform. 

Zomato Intercity Legend services let users order food from other cities. All orders ordered by 7 p.m. or earlier will be delivered the following day. The service will be effective in cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and other cities. 

Now, the platform has increased the company’s minimum order value to Rs 5,000. Under Intercity Legends, there was no set minimum order value, and each user would receive a different final amount.

Started in 2022, Zomato put the tagline ‘The love for food knows no boundaries!’ in its Intercity Legend services. During the launch, in a blog post, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal wrote, “Order and relish legendary dishes like baked rosogollas from Kolkata, biryani from Hyderabad, Mysore Pak from Bengaluru, kebabs from Lucknow, butter chicken from Old Delhi, or pyaaz kachori from Jaipur.” Only a limited iconic restaurants are available under this service. However, after facing legal challenges and fewer transactions, the company decided to shut it down. 

Meanwhile, ‘Xtreme’ has been shut down by the company due to insufficient demand, as per the Economic Times. The aim of ‘Xtreme’ was to transform the local delivery market by focusing on small and large merchants for the delivery of small packages. Implemented in almost all of the 750–800 cities where Zomato operates, the service used the vast fleet of the food delivery platform. 

Speaking to the Business Standard about the closure, a company executive said, “It was an experiment. Many restaurants wanted a similar quality of experience for direct deliveries. That was the basis on which ‘Xtreme’ was rolled out. But it was always an experiment and could have swung either way.”
