Wholesale Inflation Shoots Up By 0.58% In November 2019

New Delhi, 16 December, 2019: The wholesale prices in India moved up by 0.58 per cent in November 2019, from 0.16 per cent in October of the same year, especially due to increase in prices of food articles such as onion. It was the highest wholesale inflation rate since August 2019.

According to the data released on Monday by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the index for primary articles rose by 0.9 per cent to 147.3 in November, from 146.0 for the previous month. Of which, the index for food articles group rose by 1.4 per cent to 162.4, while the index for non-food articles group rose by 0.6 per cent to 127.0.
Meanwhile, the index for minerals group continues to show a downward trend. In November 2019, the index for the group declined by 2.3 per cent to 154.8, from 158.4 for the previous month. In this group, the index for crude petroleum and natural gas witnessed 3.1 per cent decline to 83.1. However, the price of natural gas moved up by 1 per cent.
“The rate of inflation based on WPI food index consisting of food articles from primary articles group, and food product from manufactured products group increased from 7.65 per cent in October to 9.02 per cent in November 2019,” the Ministry said.

It added that for the month of September 2019, the final WPI for all commodities and annual rate of inflation remained unchanged at its provisional level of 121.3 and 0.33 percent, respectively.
