The Bollywood had dry run on Box Office for most of 2022. But things turned for better with the start of 2023 when Shah Rukh Khan Starrer Pathaan broke multiple records to emerge as an all-time blockbuster. Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham starrer - Pathaan has crossed nearly Rs 550 crore in Box Office collection while the budget to produce the movie was around Rs 260 crore, according to Bollymoviereviewz.com.
SRK-led Pathaan broke multiple records and became highest grossing Hindi film ever. The film raised Rs 1,028 crore worldwide since its release in January, Yash Raj Films (YRF) told PTI earlier this month.
“The total worldwide gross is an incredible 1028 crore (India gross : Rs 641.50 crore, overseas : Rs 386.50 crore)” YRF said in a press note.
“It feels incredible that ‘Pathaan’ is now the number one Hindi film in India today! The love and appreciation that has been showered on ‘Pathaan’ by audiences is historic and it shows in the box office result. As a director, I’m proud that I made a film that has entertained people globally,” Pathaan’s Director Siddharth Anand said in a statement.
The new milestone comes days after “Pathaan” became the highest grossing Hindi film worldwide in the history of Hindi cinema in its initial run. “Dangal” is the highest grossing Indian film with a reported earnings of around Rs 2,000 crore.
Meanwhile, Mumbai-based brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher is bullish on prospects of Bollywood collections at Box Office and expects at least seven films to cross Rs 100 crore-mark in the first quarter of financial year 2024 led by Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan which is slated to release on June 2.
Prabhas' Adipurush, a film based on Ramayana and made with a budget of Rs 600 crore, is also expected to cross Rs 100 crore mark and is expected to release on June 16. Apart from these two, Ajay Devgan starrer Bhola, Salman Khan starrer Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, PS-2, Fast & Furious 10 and Maidaan are also expected to cross Rs 100 crore mark in Bollywood collections, Mumbai-based brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher noted.
"In 4QFY23, while 5 movies (3 are regional) have clocked Rs 1bn (Rs 100 crore) mark, Bollywood performance has been sub-par as except for Pathaan and Tu Jhoothi Mein Makkar, none of the other movies have done well. However, the pipeline for 1QFY24 looks encouraging as 7 movies have made it to our potential Rs1bn slate," Prabhudas Lilladher said.
"In comparison, 5/3 (excluding Bhola) movies were in our list for 3QFY23/4QFY23 respectively. Though our strike rate in estimating the Rs 1bn slate has been sub-par/average (see exhibit below), pipeline for 1QFY24 has quite a few highly anticipated movies with big star cast. We thus expect good footfall recovery in 1QFY24 versus last 2 quarters," the Mumbai-based brokerage added.
