According to a CNBC report, this round of Amazon layoffs are a part of the 9,000 job cuts announced by CEO Andy Jassy some time back. The idea behind these layoffs is to rein in costs as the world economy tackles an economic downturn.

The report adds that Paul Kotas, senior vice president of advertising, IMDb and Grand Challenge, Amazon, sent a note to all employees informing them about the layoffs at Amazon. “As Andy shared a few weeks ago, throughout the 2023 planning process, we’ve been scrupulously prioritizing resources with an eye toward maximizing benefits to customers and the long-term health of our business…….As a result, we have made deeply-considered decisions about how best to move forward, resulting in role eliminations for a small percentage of our organisation,” CNBC quoted Kotas’ memo as saying.

However, Amazon started informing its employees about the job cuts only on Tuesday morning via an email. The email reportedly added that layoffs will begin on June 20 or July 17 and would most likely affect workers in New York and New Jersey. After a 60 to 90 day transition period, these affected workers will reportedly be given the opportunity to search for another role inside the company.

Amazon layoffs, as mentioned above, would reportedly impact people in advertising, cloud computing, Twitch livestreaming and human resources divisions, as announced by CEO Andy Jassy before.
