Donald Trump Proposes Elon Musk-led Government Efficiency Commission if Re-Elected

Donald Trump mentioned in his speech that Musk, who has never headed a government body, has agreed to lead the commission

America’s former President Donald Trump said on September 5 that he would establish a government efficiency commission under the leadership of Tesla owner Elon Musk if he came to power again, according to a report by Reuters. The purpose of the commission would be to conduct an audit of the federal government and recommend “drastic reforms” to save “trillions of dollars,” Trump said.

“I will create a government efficiency commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government,” said Trump.

Trump said Musk, who has never headed a government body, has agreed to lead the commission. Musk has shown his inclination to accept Trump’s proposal. “I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises. No pay, no title, no recognition is needed,” said billionaire Musk in a post on X.

The announcement was made by Trump while delivering a speech at the New York Economic Club on Thursday. The appointment of Musk as the head of the efficiency commission is part of a broader economic roadmap that Trump has for the country. Apart from the formation of the commission, he proposed reducing tax burdens and raising import tariffs. For corporates he announced that companies manufacturing in the US would be eligible to lower the tax rate. Trump proposed to lower corporate tax from 21 per cent to 15 per cent.

Additionally, on regaining the Presidency, he has promised to eliminate 10 existing government regulations for every new one added. He mentioned the possibility of repealing the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Moreover, to finance infrastructure projects, Trump proposed the creation of a sovereign wealth fund. He would also go on to “issue a national emergency declaration” to help new energy projects get easy clearance from bureaucratic processes.
