Elon Musk's Twitter Suspends Indian Rival Koo's Account

Earlier this week, Twitter had suspended the accounts of several global journalists who were covering the social media platform

Social media platform Twitter has suspended the official handle of its Indian competitor Koo from its platform. Twitter did not cite any reasons for the suspension. This comes on the back of Twitter suspending several international journalists' accounts from the platform earlier this week.

Reacting to this move, Koo's co-founder Mayank Bidawatka has accused Twitter of acting like a publisher instead of a platform.

Mastodon, another social media platform that is touted to be an alternative to Twitter, was also suspended on Musk's platform earlier this week. Additionally, all links that redirected to Mastodon servers have also been disabled on Twitter.

Aprameya Radhakrishna, another co-founder of Koo, has pointed out that the suspension of Koo and Mastodon is a violation of the 'free speech' policy that Musk claims to uphold.

Koo is an Indian social media site that is considered to be an alternative to Twitter. Recently, it was launched in Brazil where it gathered a lot of popularity in a very short time. The Bangalore-based start-up's platform amassed almost a million downloads within a week of its launch.

Earlier this week, in addition to the suspension of several journalists' accounts, Twitter had also disbanded its Trust and Safety Council. This was a group of external expert volunteers who provided the platform advice about online safety. There are growing concerns that Twitter under its billionaire CEO Musk is becoming an increasingly unsafe space.
