Gen Z culture has once again spiraled a debate among netizens. Recently, Siddharth Shah posted a screenshot of an employee's email for a work leave.
“Hi Siddharth, I will be on leave on 8th November 2024. Bye,” the mail read. Shah captioned the screenshot, “How my Gen Z team approaches for leave.”
Undoubtedly, the post garnered massive attention in the digital space and even sparked a debate on workplace culture. This is largely because when it comes to Gen Z, it's hard to ignore stuff. This generation is bold, direct and has a poles apart idealism from what is commonly believed. Perhaps, that's why it attracts all eyes. Anything that is different, interests people the most.

While some netizens weren’t too thrilled and ended up comparing the situation with their own corporate mannerism, others appreciated it.
"Normalise this. People shouldn’t have to give reasons if they want to take an off. It’s their right," one of the X users said in a reply.
One of the netizens also appreciated the Gen Z way and said that, "they are balancing it......So they are good."
One of the netizens also ended up telling a hilarious anecdote, "One of my Gen Z team members suddenly declared 1 week leave. It was a critical time of the project so I tried to reason. He did not budge. The leave was because he had a breakup and he wanted to go to the mountains to forget the breakup," he said.
Beyond this lighthearted debate, it would be wrong to overlook the harsh realities of corporate toxicity that some employees, especially young professionals, are currently facing.
The recent demise of a former EY employee, Anna Sebastian Perayil, has already sparked a strong debate on workplace culture. Stuck between long working hours and short deadlines, the young generation is already facing a hard time.
For a country like India, which is set to benefit hugely from its demographic dividend owing to its large youth population, addressing the work culture debate is of utmost importance.
