According to media reports, these blocked messenger apps were being used by terrorists to send and receive messages from Pakistan. If one were to boil it down, as per News18, the messenger apps were being used by terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir.

While the government has not officially released the names of the blocked apps, a report by News18 mentions few. According to the report, Crypviser, Enigma, Safeswiss, Mediafire, Wickrme, BChat, Nandbox, Conion, IMO, Element, Second line, Zangi, Threema, Briar and many others have been blocked by the central government.

Further, the report adds that it was found that terror groups were communicating with their aids in Pakistan through these mediums.

It must be noted that this is not the first time that the Indian government has banned/blocked any such apps over security concerns. Even before this, the usage of several apps has come under scanner, primarily due to their usage by terror groups.
