In response to a complaint from the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) regarding the delayed onboarding of over 2,000 candidates by Infosys, the Labour Ministry of Karntaka has now directed the State Labour Commissioner's Office to take appropriate action under the relevant labour laws. This is as per the Economic Times.
The Ministry in a letter dated September 3, which was reportedly seen by ET, has urged the Karnataka labour department to take action.
It said that since the appropriate government under respective labour laws in this matter falls under the Karnataka state government, it reportedly said, "you are requested to look into this matter and take suitable action".
However, Infosys has already started sending letters to those impacted engineering students who have been awaiting the call for joining the company for the past two years.
Harpreet Singh Saluja, president at NITES, reportedly told ET, that most of the 2,000 young engineering graduates who were selected for the role of system engineer have got their joining date, while around 500 graduates who were selected for digital specialist engineer (DSE) roles are yet to get their joining dates.
“We will keep a vigilant eye for the rest of them,” he reportedly said.
The development comes after IT union NITES last month filed a complaint against Infosys to the Ministry of Labour for the delayed onboarding and "ongoing exploitation and unprofessional treatment" of over 2,000 young engineering graduates.

The IT major, based in Bengaluru, has also sent more than 1,000 appointment letters to freshers it had promised to hire in 2022 on Monday, as per reports.
Infosys revised its revenue guidance to 3-4 per cent for the full year compared to its earlier guidance of 1-3 per cent, hence the company would need more employees.
Sources aware of the matter told ET that the fact that Infosys is seeing a demanding environment would mean that everyone who is waiting onboard would be given an appointment letter by December.
