Meta India’s Head Of Partnerships Manish Chopra Steps Down, Fourth Major Exit In Six Months

Meta India’s Director and Head of Partnerships Manish Chopra has stepped down from his position after four and a half years at the company. Chopra posted on LinkedIn to announce his resignation, adding that he will help with the transition over the next few weeks.

“I am stepping down from my role at Meta and will help with the transition over the next few weeks,” Chopra wrote.

Chopra’s resignation comes after a series of significant departures from Meta India in the past year, including WhatsApp Pay India Head Vinay Choletti exiting in December and Meta India Head Ajit Mohan, Meta Public Policy Head Rajiv Aggarwal and WhatsApp India Head Abhijit Bose all leaving in November 2022.

He joined Meta India as the Director and Head of Partnerships in 2019. In this position, he oversaw the growth and engagement strategies for Meta’s group of applications including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. 

Chopra took over as the Meta India interim head for a short tenure after Ajit Mohan resigned, till Sandhya Devanathan was appointed to the position. 

Before joining Meta, Chopra was the co-founder and CEO of app-only deals marketplace, Little, which was later bought by Paytm in 2017. He also the co-founder of Zovi, an online apparel brand. Chopra served various roles at Microsoft during his nine years tenure. He also spent nearly two years at Oracle as the Director of Enterprise Product Marketing.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Chopra earned Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1989 from Punjab University, Chandigarh.  In 1992, he completed his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research.

Chopra’s exit aligns with Meta’s global cost-cutting measures, which involve the layoff of 21,000 employees. In April, the company announced its second round of layoffs across all its platforms firing around 10,000 employees. Prior to that, the company laid-off 11,000 employees in November 2022.
