More Mass Layoffs At Google? Here Is What The Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai Said

More layoffs at Alphabet's Google? Google’s top boss Pichai said that the company is prioritising and moving people to its most important areas

In the season of mass layoffs, when several companies like Meta and Amazon have followed a second round of job cuts, tech giant Google is also coming under the lens. As per latest updates, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has said something steaming on Google layoffs, while not entirely ruling out the possibility of another round of job cuts.

As per an interview with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Google’s top boss Pichai said that the company is prioritising and moving people to its most important areas. However, the Alphabet CEO did not entirely rule out chances of another round of layoffs at Google and said this.

“We’re very, very focused on this set of opportunities we have, and I think there’s a lot of work left,” Sundar Pichai told WSJ, referring to its AI chatbot Bard competing with ChatGPT, new features in Gmail and so on.

He also reportedly added, “There is also an important inflection point with AI. Where we can, we are definitely prioritising and moving people to our most important areas, so that is ongoing work.”

In addition to this, on being asked if Google employees were directed to cut operating costs by 20 per cent this year, Pichai, as per the WSJ, responded, “Yes, but not specifically worded that way... In different areas, we have different subgoals, but at a company level, do we have goals to durably improve our margins and drive long-term savings?”
