Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd. Marks Breakthrough With First Unit Synchronization

The first unit of the 'Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd' project was successfully synchronized with the 765 KV power grid on November 4.

Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd. (NUPPL), a partnership between NLC India Ltd and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd, has achieved a major accomplishment in the construction of the Coal-based Thermal Power Plant located in Ghatampur Tehsil, Uttar Pradesh.

On November 4, 2023, the first unit of this ambitious project was effectively synchronized to the 765 KV power grid.

Commenting on the development, Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLC India Ltd, and Chairman, NUPPL, said, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the entire team at NUPPL for their dedication and hard work in achieving this significant milestone. We are proud of the progress made and remain committed to delivering efficient power to the people of India.”

The NUPPL thermal power plant is now gearing up for its upcoming goal of coal firing, a crucial step towards achieving the eagerly awaited Commercial Operation Declaration (COD). The entire 1980 MW power capacity of the NUPPL plant has already been allocated to Uttar Pradesh and Assam through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

Besides the power plant, NUPPL is also making significant advancements in the development of the Pachwara South Coal Block in Dumka District, Jharkhand. This coal mine will play a crucial role in ensuring a sustainable and consistent fuel supply for the power plant.

The 1980 MW advanced thermal power plant has its primary boiler package managed by L&T, the turbine package handled by GE, and the Balance of Plant (BoP) package overseen by BGR.

Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd (NUPPL) was formed through a partnership where NLC India Ltd holds a majority ownership stake of 51%, while Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd has a 49% ownership share.
