Nitin Gadkari, the Union minister for Road Transport and Highways, slammed political parties for free electricity and subsidies stating that it is a way of 'giving away' money to Indians in the guise of welfare schemes.
Addressing the News18 India Chaupal event in New Delhi, Gadkari emphasised the need of the hour for politicians is to start thinking about long-term strategies instead of taking the short-term route so that India can achieve the dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
He further stated that if India was to become a developed nation, it needed to stand on its own two feet rather than relying on promises that address the nation temporarily.
Gadkari sought people to think if the free electricity and subsidised gas cylinders were in the best interest of India. He wanted everyone to envision an Indian society that does not rely on instant gratification.
Gadkari condemned nepotism in politics and called out the politicians who seek to find opportunities in politics for their children. He cited his own family as an example which does not ask for ministerial favours from him.
He stated that there are many talented and good individuals who are ready to serve the nation and a fair chance should be given to those aspiring to take India to a better position.
Nitin Gadkari defended Uttar Pradesh's CM Yogi Adityanath after he was asked about the Supreme Court's directive asking the UP's government to stop bulldozing homes.
Gadkari stated that the UP CM does not see a person's caste, religion or background before taking action of any sort on encroached areas or houses in the state.
Gadkari claimed that Yogi Adityanath is impartial when it comes to delivering justice and that the houses he had demolished over the years have been done so without the motive of targeting anyone.
