After a spree of tech layoffs, Walmart layoffs are also here. As per updates, the e-commerce giant may reportedly cut close to 2,000 jobs, leaving an impact on all employees.
According to a Bloomberg report, apart from axing 2,000 jobs, these Walmart layoffs may also take place across five e-commerce fulfilment centres in the United States (US). These job cuts also reportedly include 1,000 positions in Forth Worth, Texas; 600 in Pennsylvania; 400 in Florida and close to 200 in New Jersey.
Apart from this, Walmart may also reportedly hand over pink slips to some employees in California.
The report adds that while the reasons for Walmart layoffs are not known, it is also planning to expand in some other areas. The company’s spokesperson Randy Hargrove told the publication that Walmart is “growing in some areas as it adjusts its stores and fulfilment centres to handle more online orders, which could potentially allow the company to reallocate some employees to different jobs.”
Walmart layoffs just come after a few days its competitor Amazon too, laid off several employees. Recently, Amazon’s gaming business also sacked some employees. this comes after the company, back in 2022, confirmed that it the layoffs spree would continue till 2023.
Several experts believe that the layoffs are here to stay, all through 2023 due to a global economic downturn. However, eventually, the situation is also expected to improve.
