Losses at Market Closing For The Sensex, Nifty

Sensex and Nifty shed 73.88 points and 17.85 points, respectively.

The benchmark indices at today’s trading session ended on a low note as the Sensex and the Nifty lost by 73.88 points or 0.21 per cent and 17.85 points or 0.17 per cent to close at 35,548.26 and 10,799.85, respectively.

At market closing, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Bajaj Auto and Maruti Suzuki were the top gainers in the S&P BSE while Kotak Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Coal India, Axis Bank and Tata Steel were the major losers.

At NSE, HPCL, ICICI Bank, IOC, BPCL and Tata Motors were leading the pack whereas Hindalco, Vedanta, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Mahindra and Bajaj Finance suffered losses.

At the closing of the world market, the indices displayed downcast results as Nikkei, Hang Seng, CAC 40, DAX, Shanghai Composite and FTSE 100 went down by 0.75 per cent, 0.43 per cent, 1.18 per cent, 1.37 per cent, 0.73 per cent and 0.34 per cent, respectively, at the time of filing report.

The BSE Midcap indices dropped by 29.10 points or 0.18 per cent to close at 15,972.10 while the Small Cap slipped by 130.49 points or 0.77 per cent to close at 16,830.67.

With the market in red, the banking sector went down with Axis Bank, HDFC Bank and State Bank of India declining by 7 points or 1.33 per cent, 10.70 points or 0.53 per cent and 0.70 points or 0.25 per cent, respectively, at the closing of today’s trading.

The commodities sector saw a marginal decline in both gold and crude oil prices in which gold dipped by Rs 13 or 0.04 per cent to stand at Rs 30,997 per 10 grams. Brent Crude went down by Rs 35 or 0.79 per cent to close at Rs 4,400 per bbl, at the time of going to the press.
