Sensex and Nifty lose 22.21 and 23.35 points, respectively
The Thursday market closed on a low note as benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty lost 22.21 points or 0.06 per cent and 23.35 points or 0.21 per cent, respectively. The Sensex shuttled between 36,515.58 and 36,279.33 before closing at 36,351.23, while the Nifty closed at 10,957.10 after shuttling between 11,006.50 and 10,935.45, during the day.
In the BSE Sensex, Bharti Airtel witnessed the highest gains with 2.45 per cent, followed by Vedanta Ltd (2.21 per cent), Yes Bank (1.93 per cent), ITC (1.71 per cent) and Adani Ports (1.39 per cent), while Kotak Mahindra Bank lost worth 3.69 per cent, followed by L&T, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel and Coal India with a loss of 2.61 per cent, 1.22 per cent, 0.98 per cent and 0.95 per cent, respectively, at the end of the day’s trading.
The NSE market saw Titan, Yes Bank and Vedanta Ltd end as the top three gainers rising by 2.93 per cent, 2.33 per cent and 2.21 per cent, respectively, whereas Hindalco, Kotak Mahindra Bank and L&T were the biggest losers.
The S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices continued on its losing streak as they lost 95.41 points or 0.63 per cent and 157.44 points or 1.00 per cent, respectively, to close at 15,085.94 and 15,657.22, at the end of the trading session.
The value of Indian rupee fell by 0.425 paise or 0.62 per cent to the US dollar to stand at Rs 69.04, at the time of market closing.
The global and Asian markets had a disappointing day as only UK’s FTSE 100 ended with a gain of 0.12 per cent, while China’s Shanghai Composite, France’s CAC 40, Germany’s DAX, Japan’s Nikkei and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng ended with a loss of 0.53 per cent, 0.47 per cent, 0.42 per cent, 0.39 per cent and 0.13 per cent, respectively.
In the commodities sector, Brent Crude lost Rs 2 or 0.04 per cent and closed at Rs 4,649 per bbl, while gold prices fell by Rs 95 or 0.32 per cent and stood at Rs 29,671 at the time of filing this report.
The BSE saw the banking sector close on a positive note as Axis Bank gained marginally by 0.59 per cent, followed by State Bank of India and HDFC Bank with a gain of 0.44 per cent each.
