The COVID-19 pandemic has expedited the rollout of digital technologies across the insurance value chain. Under the practice of social distancing, insurance processes like claims have seen a major shift.
To enable a customer to claim in the shortest period possible, life insurers have adopted various digital mediums.
Here is how you can make life insurance online claims easily and things you need to keep in mind while doing it.
Raising claims online
Life insurance claims amid the pandemic are being accepted by insurers through digital mediums like email or WhatsApp. To initiate the process, claim documents need to be sent to the insurer through email and WhatsApp.
What are the documents required?
To make a life insurance claim, you will need to arrange documents like policy documents, death certificates by the proper authority before raising it. Death claim application form, police first information report (in case of unnatural death), post-mortem report (in case of unnatural death), hospital record (in case of death due to illness), ID proof of the beneficiary, NEFT mandate form attested by bank authorities along with a canceled cheque are also needed.
What can affect claims ?
Life insurance claims are generally settled within 30 days, however, it might take longer if some of the documents are missing. The claims can also be rejected if documents are fabricated. It is important to arrange for all the original documents before raising a claim.
How to check claim status ?
As mandated by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India insurers are to provide live claim status on their websites. Claim status can also be derived through calls, SMS, email, and WhatsApp.
