As the global demand for affordable and sustainable energy rises, the clean energy sector is booming, creating jobs at more than twice the pace of other industries. The U.S. Department of Energy’s 2023 report revealed that the industry added 142,000 jobs last year, growing by 4.2 percent, compared to the 2 percent growth seen across other sectors. This marks a significant increase from previous years, with clean energy unionisation also climbing to 12.4 percent, surpassing the overall energy sector’s unionisation rate of 11 percent.

The report highlights job growth across wind, solar, nuclear, and battery storage sectors. Wind and solar, both recognised for generating clean, pollution-free energy, are driving much of this expansion. Meanwhile, nuclear power, despite the complexities surrounding nuclear waste, remains a critical player in the energy transition due to its ability to produce power on demand, regardless of weather conditions.

This steady job growth underscores the clean energy sector’s pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future, with expansion expected to continue for decades.
