Cyclone Dana is expected to hit the coastal regions of Odisha and Bengal. The Bay of Bengal's deep sea depression has developed into a cyclonic storm named Dana, which is anticipated to make landfall between Bhitarkanika Park and Dharma port on October 25 Friday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that Cyclone 'Dana,' currently over the Bay of Bengal, is forecasted to make landfall along the states' coast between Thursday midnight and Friday morning, moving at a speed of 100-110 kmph (62-68 mph) with gusts reaching up to 120 kmph (75 mph).
As per the IMD, Dana is expected to cause significant rainfall in the southern districts of Bengal, including the North and South 24 paraganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly, as well as in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Jaipur districts of Odisha today.

Due to the cyclone, flight operations at Kolkata airport will be halted from 6 pm on Thursday until 9 am on Friday. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) said to PTI that the decision was made for the safety of passengers, airline staff, equipment, navigational aids, and infrastructure in consideration. Eastern and South Eastern Railways have cancelled over 300 trains from Thursday to Friday. EMU local train service between Sealdah station and Hasnabad will be halted starting from 8 pm on Thursday until Friday, and the Odisha High Court will also be closed until tomorrow.
“We have evacuated approximately 50000 people so far and a total of around 300,000 people are likely to be evacuated,” Special Relief Commissioner Deoranjan Kumar Singh told Reuters.
The Dharma port in the Bhadrak region of the state, operated by the Adani group, has also suspended its activities.
