The Swedish home furnishing company aims for full electrification of its delivery fleet in India by 2025, expanding operations and increasing its electric vehicle fleet by 40 percent, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability
Ikea, the Swedish home furnishings giant, has announced an ambitious plan to electrify all its deliveries in India by 2025, significantly expanding its fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) to support this goal. Currently, 88 percent of Ikea's deliveries across the country are made using EVs, with the company already achieving 100 percent zero-emission deliveries in cities such as Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Pune.
Since its entry into the Indian market in 2018, Ikea has progressively increased its focus on sustainable delivery methods. The company introduced electric vehicles into its delivery fleet in 2019 and has since deployed approximately 100 EVs across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, and Gujarat.
As part of its broader sustainability strategy, Ikea plans to expand its EV fleet by 40 percent, aligning with its global objectives of becoming climate positive, halving greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2030, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Ikea's plans for India include launching operations in Delhi-NCR next year, where all deliveries will be conducted exclusively by electric vehicles from the outset. The company has partnered with prominent automotive manufacturers—Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, and EKA—to build its delivery fleet, ensuring a robust and scalable EV infrastructure.
In addition to expanding its fleet, Ikea India has been actively facilitating collaborations between last-mile delivery partners and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to accelerate the transition to 100 percent EV deliveries across all its markets. The company is also piloting same-day delivery services in Hyderabad, with plans to roll out this initiative across other markets in the coming year.
Through these efforts, Ikea reinforces its commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint, setting a strong example in the retail sector as it continues to scale its operations in India.
