India, Africa Strengthen Clean Tech, Maritime Security & Climate Ties

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar calls for enhanced India-Africa cooperation in clean technology, climate-resilient agriculture, and maritime security, emphasising their joint role in advancing the Global South

Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, has underscored the importance of bolstering cooperation between India and Africa across various critical sectors, including clean technology, climate-resilient agriculture, maritime security, connectivity, and the blue economy. His remarks came during the inaugural session of the 19th CII India-Africa Business Conclave, where he outlined the immense potential of the India-Africa partnership in driving progress for the Global South.

In his address, Vice President Dhankhar highlighted key areas of collaboration, particularly in tackling climate change, advancing clean technology, and ensuring maritime security. He emphasised that these sectors are pivotal in promoting sustainable development and peace, crucial for the future of both regions. 

The Vice President also expressed India’s deep gratitude to African nations for their active participation in global initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, the Global Biofuel Alliance, and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. He reaffirmed India's support for the African Union’s 'Ezulwini Consensus' and the 'Sirte Declaration,' underscoring the shared commitment to addressing global challenges. 

In a strong statement of India's foreign policy, Vice President Dhankhar noted that India has historically eschewed expansionism, favouring instead a participatory approach to building and strengthening partnerships. He pointed out that with India's rapid digitisation and technological advancements, there are numerous avenues for cooperation with African countries, offering opportunities for mutual benefit and shared success.

The Vice President further urged African nations to join the International Big Cat Alliance, an initiative aimed at conserving big cats and their habitats, reflecting India’s commitment to global environmental stewardship. 

The speech by Vice President Dhankhar not only highlighted the depth of India-Africa relations but also set a forward-looking agenda focused on sustainable development, technological collaboration, and security, marking a significant step in the ongoing partnership between the two regions.
