The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched a dedicated Task Force to spearhead the advancement of geothermal energy in India. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to exploring and developing geothermal resources as a sustainable energy solution for the country.
Dr A.K. Tripathi, an Advisor at MNRE, has been appointed to lead this Task Force. The group is entrusted with the critical task of reviewing the draft of the “Indian Geothermal Energy Development Framework.” This framework will serve as a strategic blueprint for the development and utilisation of geothermal resources across India.
A primary objective of the Task Force is to evaluate the global status of geothermal technologies and their applications. By understanding the latest advancements and best practices worldwide, the Task Force aims to identify viable technologies that can be effectively implemented in the Indian context.
