Such construction has zero-water consumption, saves on time of construction, and causes less carbon footprint
Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEBs) can help to reduce the emissions related to construction processes. PEBs have lower greenhouse gas emissions and reduced reliance on natural resources, thereby significantly cutting down the environmental impact compared to traditional construction.
Prefabricated components are manufactured off-site, minimising dust generation during on-site assembly, leading to cleaner construction environments and reduced air pollution. Unlike traditional construction that requires significant amounts of water for processes, PEBs are assembled without the need for water, making them ideal for areas facing water scarcity.
Nikhel Bothra, Executive Director, EPACK Prefab, says: “Going forward, we will see green steel coming in the market. We are working very closely with all the largest steel manufacturers. We keep doing a lot of research and development and project trials for green steel. We are also working on strength-to-weight ratio so that the steel consumption goes further down.”
He adds, “At present, we are observing impressive demand for PEB from industries like aviation, warehouses, automobiles, cold-storage, data centres and other manufacturing industries. We are also contributing to significant projects in sectors like commercial spaces, hospitals, hotels, stadiums and schools as well”.
Emphasising the key benefits of the new-age construction technology, Bothra further added, “PEB has substantial benefits over conventional construction with zero-water consumption, savings on time of construction, lesser carbon footprint, among many other environmental and financial benefits. A pertinent aspect in favour of the new-age technologies is that unlike the construction involving conventional technologies, the industries can recover the cost of construction at the end-of-use of the building, thus making them net-zero construction.”
