India is focussing on hydrogen to meet its net zero targets. India launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission to showcase India as a global hub for production, usage and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.

Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, said, “Developing green hydrogen supply chains and infrastructure are key to realising India’s vision of becoming a global leader in production and export.”

In the plenary session on the EU perspective on hydrogen, Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, CEO, Hydrogen Europe, deliberated on India’s important role in the EU’s green hydrogen roadmap. Saying that India is an important partner as a key production hub, he elaborated on the importance of carbon pricing mechanisms.

He added, “At the end of the rainbow, we should not discuss colours, but rather the carbon content. For India, green is the best option, offering the most cost-effective solution in the long run.”
