UP Accelerates Green Energy Push With Three Solar Parks

Uttar Pradesh is intensifying its shift towards renewable energy with the commissioning of three solar parks, part of an ambitious plan to generate 22,000 MW of electricity from solar power across the state

In a significant move to meet growing electricity demands and combat rising energy costs, the Uttar Pradesh government has commissioned three new solar parks as part of a broader initiative to promote sustainable energy solutions. The three parks, with a combined capacity of 435 MW, mark the beginning of the state’s ambitious plan to develop nine solar parks, which will collectively produce 3,710 MW of solar power.

A government spokesman revealed that the state has finalised land allocation for all nine parks, ensuring a smooth path for their swift development. “The bidding process for the remaining six parks is already underway, with rapid progress expected,” the spokesman stated.

The solar parks have been strategically located across four cities in the Bundelkhand region—Jhansi, Lalitpur, Chitrakoot, and Jalaun—and in other key cities, including Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Mirzapur, and Prayagraj. Notably, parks under construction include a 600 MW facility in Jhansi and Lalitpur, an 800 MW project in Chitrakoot, and a 1,200 MW site in Jalaun. Kanpur Dehat and Kanpur Nagar are also set to house 75 MW and 35 MW parks, respectively.

Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to renewable energy is evident in its ambitious target to generate 22,000 MW from solar power. This target includes 6,000 MW of solar rooftop installations on both private and government buildings and 14,000 MW through solar utility projects and solar parks. Additionally, under the PM-KUSUM Yojana, the state is leveraging solar energy to power 16.17 MW of grid tube wells, further contributing to its renewable energy goals.

The state’s solar energy initiative has already attracted substantial investments, underscoring the growing confidence in Uttar Pradesh’s potential as a leader in the renewable energy sector. With the ongoing development of these solar parks, the state is poised to make significant strides in its transition to sustainable energy, setting a benchmark for other regions to follow.
