With India's rising power generation, transmission and storage, power semiconductors help in the decarbonisation of automotive, industrial and data centre fields, which are seen as a critical component in the supply chain.

As per Moneycontrol, the Germany- based Infineon, which operates in the semiconductor segment, makes chips for the automotive and industrial power sectors.

It also specialises in making chips for cars and aims to strengthen its manufacturing base in power semiconductors. Infineon's chips help run automobile systems that connect sensors and computers within a vehicle.

Major semiconductor players in Europe are facing a pullback in EV demand due to the weaker-than-expected economic growth and a lack of charging stations.

For the fiscal year 2023 ending on September 30, the Infineon reportedly achieved a revenue of approximately 16.3 billion Euros, with 58,600 employees worldwide. The company has a research and development site and application centre in Bengaluru as per Moneycontrol.

The company reportedly said in August that it is looking to relocate 1,400 jobs to countries with lower labour costs, and cut another 1,400 jobs worldwide, as per reports.

Infineoen's revenue fell by 9.5 per cent on year to Euro 3.7 billion ($4 billion) in its third quarter sales, short of analyst expectations, as per Moneycontrol.

Semiconductors are an important component in artificial intelligence as they provide the necessary hardware for complex computations. The race for semiconductors become very crucial as India aims to achieve its IndiaAI mission.
