This move by the company will help it save around Rs 40-50 lakh in rent a month. Speaking to Moneycontrol, a Zepto employee said, “While the company has been flexible for now, we have all been mandated to relocate to Bengaluru by the end of November or early December.”

The company will cover the relocation costs for any employees who choose to move to Bengaluru. According to an insider, the total expense for this move is expected to be approximately Rs 3-4 crore as a one-time cost.

Zepto has office business verticals both in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Now, with this move, the company reportedly aims to have around 1,700-1,800 employees under one roof. The quick commerce platform is already in talks to finalise a plot for its office in the tech hub.

The report adds that out of Zepto's 1,700-1,800 employees, approximately 1,000 are based in Mumbai and 400 in Bengaluru. The other 300 employees are distributed across various regions, and they oversee the city operations.

Among the 1,000 Mumbai-based employees, around 90 per cent have expressed willingness to relocate, while the rest are still considering the move. If everything proceeds as expected, only about 5-7 per cent of these employees may be unable to move to Bengaluru, adds the report.

However, Zepto is fine with this risk, as it believes that because of its growing business, it will attract more talent as well. Speaking to the Economic Times recently, Zepto founder Aadit Palicha said, “Of our stores, 75 per cent are profitable right now, and more are turning profitable faster. Earlier, it used to take about 23 months [for a store] to hit breakeven. Now they’re only taking seven to eight months.”
