Goyal tweeted on November 20, 2024, that the ideal candidate should possess empathy, common sense, a strong learning attitude, and communication skills while promising to teach more than a top-tier management institute
The Chief of Staff would be responsible for the future of Zomato through key projects like Blinkit, District, Hyperpure, and Feeding India. There will be no salary for the first year of the role. Instead, the candidate will have to pay Rs 20 lakh which will be donated to Feeding India
Many users on social media asserted their anger, commenting on the nature of the offer. Criticising the privilege required to afford the Rs 20 lakh payment, making the role unattainable for most
Others called out that the action seemed to have a "god complex vibe", denouncing the company for exploiting gig workers. Another user also suggested that it is an attempt at covering up the accusation that drugs were allegedly being sold through Zomato in some restaurants
A user commented, "They will surely go hungry after the loan for 20L". Another said, "Young people need money, not the afterglow of charity". Another user remarked, "Even Narayana Murthy seems like a saint after reading this"
In a follow-up post on November 21, Goyal revealed that they had received over 10,000 applications and that they were planning to close the application inbox by 6 pm IST that day
