Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy has introduced a unique, inflation-adjusted scholarship at IIM Ahmedabad, covering the full cost of the two-year MBA for the institute’s highest-performing student.
The scholarship is named after the Professor Jaswant G Krishnayya Merit Scholarship, honoring a mentor significant in Murthy’s early career.
The Scholarship covers tuition, hostel and course materials—costs that can reach up to Rs 36.20 lakh—without the recipient incurring any expense.
Awarded annually to the student with the highest CGPA at the end of the first year in IIMA’s flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP), with no income or background restrictions.
Structured to run for 20 years, Murthy has committed Rs 12 crore to the initiative through his family office, Catamaran Ventures LLP.
As of 2025, the cost of a two-year MBA at IIM Ahmedabad ranges from Rs 34.15 lakh for single accommodation to Rs 36.20 lakh for married housing, placing it among the priciest MBA programs in India.
Other top IIMs like Bangalore and Calcutta have total costs ranging from Rs 26 lakh to Rs 34 lakh, while newer IIMs charge between Rs 16.28 lakh and Rs 21 lakh.
The IIMA Endowment Fund facilitated the partnership, aiming to inspire more alumni-led giving and reflecting Murthy’s continued commitment to IIMA’s mission.
