Starting July 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a major diplomatic trip across five nations, including Brazil for the BRICS Summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa). The visit aims to deepen India’s ties with the Global South.
PM Modi’s eight-day tour from July 2 to 9 marks his longest diplomatic visit in a decade. It includes bilateral visits to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina and Namibia, plus Brazil for the BRICS Summit.
In the first leg of the tour, PM Modi will visit Ghana from July 2–3—his first-ever bilateral trip and the first Indian PM to visit Ghana in three decades.
On July 3–4, PM Modi will visit Trinidad and Tobago, meeting President Christine Kangaloo and PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar. He’ll address a joint Parliament session to boost long-standing bilateral ties, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
From July 4–5, PM Modi will visit Argentina to meet President Javier Milei. The two leaders will discuss deeper cooperation in defence, agriculture, mining, energy, trade and investment.
From July 5–8, PM Modi will visit Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. He’ll meet President Lula da Silva to discuss global governance, Artificial Intelligence (AI), climate, security and multilateral reforms. Modi will also hold bilateral talks in Brasília to deepen India–Brazil ties in trade, defence, energy, space, technology, health and more.
PM Modi will conclude his tour in Namibia, becoming the third Indian Prime Minister to visit the country. He will hold bilateral talks with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and address the Parliament of Namibia.
This is PM Modi’s second five-nation tour. In 2016, he visited the US, Mexico, Switzerland, Afghanistan and Qatar. In 2015, he completed a six-nation, eight-day trip covering Russia and five Central Asian countries.
