Bengaluru based e-commerce giant Flipkart has announced that it will create one lakh seasonal jobs ahead of the festive season and the platform’s Big Billion Days Sale. The jobs will be created in the company’s supply chain, spanning fulfillment centres, sorting centres and delivery hubs across the country. This would be done to cater to increased customer demand during the festive season.

Seasonal jobs are recurring in nature and become essential for companies in festive season as this accounts for almost 50 percent the Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) for e-commerce companies. Moreover, the total GMV of e-commerce companies was $12 billion last year, half of which came from the festive season sales, according to Moneycontrol.

“The complexity and scale during TBBD require us to scale up for capacity, storage, placement, sorting, packaging, human resources, training, delivery, and the entire supply chain, and this scale is always unprecedented,” said Hemant Badri, SVP and Head of Supply Chain, Customer Experience, and ReCommerce, Flipkart Group.

The company further added that the jobs will be given to people from diverse backgrounds and professions. The jobs will be provided to local kirana delivery partners, women, persons with disabilities (PWDs) among others, according to a statement by Flipkart.

The hired team will have to undergo training in the supply chain process for their respective functions and be trained to handle Hand-Held Devices, PoS Machines, scanners, various mobile applications, and more, the company said in a statement.
