While mass layoffs have not gone down well with many, Google layoffs have especially triggered the anger of employees out in the open. As per latest reports, Google employees are extremely unhappy with Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai’s $226 million paycheque.
According to a CNBC report, Google employees have taken to the tech giant’s internal platforms to discuss about the pay parity. The posts, as seen by the publication, also include memes comparing Sundar Pichai to Apple CEO Tim Cook, who took a 40 per cent pay cut when the company was navigating tricky waters.
One of the memes said, “Sundar accepting $226 million while laying off 12k Googlers, cutting perks, and destroying morale and culture.” Another remarked, “Ruth’s cost savings applied to everyone except our hardworking VPS and CEO.”

For the unversed, Google’s parent Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai’s annual compensation zoomed to about $226 million in 2022. This amount was almost 800 times the median employee’s pay at Google. The pay disparity became a hot topic of discussion as it comes at a time when Google laid off thousands of employees, cut perks amid recession fears.
But not just memes, Google layoffs have also been a topic of protests. Recently, several Googlers protested outside Google’s London office, voicing their concerns about the handling of layoffs by Sundar Pichai-led company. Expressing their unhappiness, many even pointed out at Pichai for the bad scenario.
