Around 400 employees from Byju’s who were either laid off, resigned, or are still a part of Byju’s have decided to act against Byju’s for not clearing their settlement dues, as per a report by businessline.
Bringing together current and former employees who are dealing with the same problem of non-payment of dues is the brainchild of a 24-year-old former employee, reads the report. The employee, who preferred being anonymous, started a WhatsApp group that became quite popular very quickly.
The former worker made the decision to make a Google form wherein parties may provide a brief explanation of their concerns, the money owing to them, and their employment status at Byju's, as per the report. Within a few days after the group was created, more than 400 people filled out the form, and the total dues of both the current and former employees were Rs 5.17 crore. However, this isn’t the exact figure of the overall payment that is due on behalf of Byju’s.

The group has now appointed a lawyer and decided to go to the National Company Law Tribunal to get justice. Interestingly, Byju’s already has cases going on with seven of its stakeholders in the NCLT. One such case was when a group of investors filed an “oppression and mismanagement plea” against the edtech firm. The Bengaluru bench of the NCLT has delayed the hearing till June 6. Meanwhile, several companies, including Oppo, BCCI, and Teleperformance, have filed insolvency pleas against Byju’s.
Byju’s has repeatedly delayed the salaries of its employees. In April, Byju’s promised that they would pay the March month's salary to its employees. The company also laid off more than 500 people amidst the salary delay in April. Employees in sales, marketing, and teaching roles were laid off as part of what the company called a restructuring exercise.
