MakeMyTrip Expands Global Reach, Services Now Available In Over 150 Countries

The travel tech expanded its reach to several countries, including major travel markets like the UK, Germany, Japan, Italy, France, and many others

Online travel firm (OTA), MakeMyTrip said its services will be accessible worldwide now. With the expansion announcement the services will be accessible across 150 countries, including major travel markets like the UK, USA, Germany, Japan, Italy, France, and many others. Previously the company was operational in India, the USA, and the UAE.   

“The rigorous standards of compliance and commitment to data protection we have in place for our Indian business, helped us transition smoothly towards stringent international compliances,” said Rajesh Magow, co-founder and group CEO of MakeMyTrip. “Our decision to make MakeMyTrip accessible globally is as result of this very goal - testing our processes against rigorous protocols across the world to enable our travellers to book or modify their travel purchases on the platform without any roadblocks wherever they are geographically.”

Highlighting the focus on increased in-bound tourism, Rajesh Magow added, “Our global accessibility will help us reach the vast Indian diaspora. Importantly, this expansion will enable us to cater to a broader audience, fostering increased inbound travel to India. Our extensive coverage, offering accommodations in more than 2000 cities, will assist international tourists in discovering the hidden gems of India.”  

MakeMyTrip leads the top five indian OTAs in operating revenue, experiencing a remarkable 95 per cent surge to Rs 4,863 crore in FY23 from Rs 2,492 crore in FY22.   

The company derived 57 per cent of its operating revenue from the hotels and packages vertical, amounting to Rs 2,769 crore in FY23, while air ticketing and bus ticketing contributed approximately 25 per cent (Rs 1,212 crore) and 12.6 per cent (Rs 614 crore), respectively. The remaining sum of Rs 268 crore was generated through other operating activities during the fiscal year, as reported in various reports.
