Nvidia, the US-based graphics chip company, has started supplying its latest chip models to its Indian partners to help build AI-cloud infrastructure in the country as per media reports.

The development comes after Nvidia struck a deal with its Indian partners such as Reliance and Tata Group in September to create AI-powered supercomputers, AI clouds and generative AI applications.

Moneycontrol reported that Nvidia’s Managing Director for South Asia, Vishal Dhupar stated that the company is delivering its latest chips, GH200 for Indian partners such as Tata Communications and the Jio platform. This news was confirmed by AS Lakshmiarayanan, MD and CEO of Tata Communications stating that the company had received chips from a US-based company.

With many companies hoping to advance their AI infrastructure worldwide, there is a heavy demand in the market for AI chips. Recently, the Government of India launched its IndiaAI mission, a flagship program of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

IndiaAI mission hopes to foster technological self-reliance, ensure ethical and responsible AI deployment, and democratize the benefits of AI across all strata of society. Right now, India is hoping to increase its Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) to achieve its AI mission.

In March this year, Nvidia’s Dhupar outlined that Nvidia is keen on partnering with more Indian companies to deploy its AI solutions.

Media reports state that Nvidia and its partners are also tapping India's creator economy — YouTubers, gamers, etc — with its advanced graphic processing unit (GPU) chips. It offers its GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs and provides validated Studio PCs through its system builder partners to the creators.

What makes the Nvidia products much sought after is that they are essential for developing Large Language Models (LLM)  and building apps such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
