Global CEO of South Korea-based Simmtech, known for manufacturing high-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs) for semiconductors, Jeffery Chun said that the firm is ready to make a colocation investment in India to support Micron's operations in Gujarat. He made the announcement at the 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Summit which is being held in Gandhinagar.

Addressing the inaugural session, Chun said, "Through the support of Central and state governments, we are ready to make an investment in Gujarat which will create thousands of jobs."

The full details of the investment which is expected to happen soon were not revealed by Chun. Semiconductor manufacturing is receiving special attention at the global investors' summit of Gujarat, aligning with the theme of "Gateway to the future".

Chun insisted that the colocation investment is not the first of its kind and highlighted that the firm had made a similar investment in China a decade back. "Colocation investment of this kind helps in boosting development of the semiconductor industry in a country. We will continue to support our clients' projects globally in the years to come."

Last year, Micron Technology had declared its intention to establish a $2.75-billion plant in Sanand near Ahmedabad. The plant will be receiving subsidies from both the Centre and the state government.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, earlier had also stated that India was on track to emerge as a significant player in the global semiconductor supply chain. He highlighted the allocation of $10 billion in incentives and assistance aimed at fostering local chip manufacturing.
