After almost serving a decade at EdTech firm Unacademy, Hemesh Singh, the co-founder and CTO of the company, has decided to step down. Singh will now take an advisory role in the company.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Singh wrote, “It has been a wonderful ride, and I am extremely grateful to have been a part of this journey. We did change the test prep industry for good.”
The other co-founders of Unacademy include Gaurav Munjal and Roman Saini. Additionally, in August last year, Sumit Jain, who leads the Graphy division of the company, was elevated to the position of co-founder. As per a LinkedIn description of the company, “Graphy is a platform that empowers creators and educators to scale their online brand and business by launching their online courses and selling them via white-labeled websites and mobile apps.”

The company’s group chief executive, Gaurav Munjal, announced, “Sumit has been like a cofounder to us since day one and has scaled Graphy to what it is today.”
This comes after a couple of high-profile exits from the company. In August last year, the chief operating officer of the company, Vivek Sinha, resigned. He stated that he had left Unacademy and made the decision to advance in his career, but he did not specify where he intended to go from there. In April of this year, Beyond Odds Technologies, a start-up, was launched by Sinha.

Additionally, in November, the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Subramanian Ramachandran, quit the company, as per a report by the Economic Times. Ramachandran served his notice period until March 2024.
There have been consistent layoffs in the company. In October last year, Unacademy’s Graphy laid off about 30 per cent of its workforce. Similarly, the company’s medical entrance test prep platform, PrepLadd, laid off around 145 employees, as per a report by Inc42.
