WhatsApp is planning to develop a voice chat feature that enables real-time conversations with Meta AI. According to a report by WABetainfo, the new feature will allow users to have hands-free communication and an interactive experience altogether.

In the past few years WhatsApp has come under scrutiny across the globe over data privacy. The new feature is being developed with special regards to privacy concerns of the users. Consequently, the voice chat will not be available in default mode and the user can at any time stop the voice conversation. The confirmation regarding the same will be provided.

The information regarding the microphone use will be given using the privacy indicator on iOS. “Meta AI will continuously listen to the user once they open the chat with the bot and this mode is manually enabled by them, allowing it to understand and respond to ongoing conversations more effectively,” said the report.

The personal messaging app is also working on adding transcribe feature that will help convert speech to text during voice conversations with the AI chatbot. This option will especially be helpful for users who have hearing impairments. Similarly, the feature will be beneficial for the those who prefer reading over listening.

As per a report, users will be able setup Meta AI’s voice output from options like “Brief” and “Full”. The “Brief” mode will provide precise answers whereas the “Full” mode will have comprehensive answers. This gives choice to the users to have ‘natural’ conversation and ‘tailor the interaction to their specific needs.’
