Online grocery delivery platform Blinkit has launched its first silent store in Delhi run by 20 specially-abled individuals as the company is investing in making its systems “more accessible and inclusive”.
The one-of-its-kind store, located in Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar, will be run by individuals who are unable to hear and speak.
"This first-of-a-kind endeavour in our ecosystem is an attempt to open greater avenues for employment for the specially-abled community," the company said in a in a blog on Tuesday.
Blinkit has partnered with Dr Reddy’s Foundation and Sarthak Educational Trust to launch its silent store, according to a Business Today report.

The e-grocery company also added that the Laxmi Nagar store has inspired it to look for more such opportunities which takes into account people who show talent in different ways.
Blinkit’s co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Albinder Dhindsa said the individuals “have shown us that we need to do more towards inclusivity.”
“Delighted to share that we recently launched our first 'Silent Store' in Laxmi Nagar (Delhi). It is run by 20 specially abled folks, whose heart and curiosity have shown us that we need to do more towards inclusivity," he tweeted.
As of now, we still have a lot of auditory cues during order processing at stores, which we are keen on solving innovatively. At the same time, we will be building more training muscle so that we can be inclusive towards onboarding more specially-abled individuals to the Blinkit ecosystem.

Blinkit currently has over 400 stores across 25 cities in India.
