Lightrock India has made an investment of $15M and acquired a significant stake in Sukoon Healthcare, a psychiatric inpatient unit based in Gurgaon. This has been the largest investment in the Indian mental health space till date.
Sukoon is planning to scale up its business into multiple locations and expand the specialist services with the fund.
With this deal, Saleem Asaria, partner at Lightrock will assume the role of the executive chairman in Sukoon India. Vidit Bahri and Kanishk Gupta, the founders of Sukoon will assume senior leadership roles.
On the investment, Vidit Bahri and Kanishk Gupta, commented, “We are excited to be working with Lightrock India and Saleem to build on our vision. We have always believed in putting our patient care and experience at the center of our protocols and have achieved recognition for the leading services we provide in Delhi. We are currently expanding our services to Bengaluru and Mumbai as the first step of a pan-India programme of scale.”

Nearly 200 million people in India have been suffering from mental health issues. However, the majority of them fail to get treatment due to the massive shortage of care-providing specialists. The company identifies the gap and eyes to fulfil it by partnering with experienced psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, counsellors and vocational therapists in India.

Additionally, the company has built up a hospital environment to treat patients. It also claims to cure more than 10,000 patients till date.
