Tata-owned Air India is set to buy 220 aircraft from American manufacturer Boeing, White House officials informed on Tuesday. This comes on the back of Air India’s historic deal with Airbus that formalised the air carrier's plans to buy 250 planes in a multi-billion-dollar transaction.
As per a statement issued by the White House, US President Joe Biden said that the deal between Boeing and Air India will support over one million American jobs across 44 states. While the deal for 220 planes will cost Air India around $34 billion, the deal also comes with an option to purchase 70 more aircraft taking total deal value to $45.9 billion.
