Amazon Layoffs: Employees In Gaming Division Sacked In Fresh Round Of Job Cuts

In the continuining spree of Amazon layoffs, the tech giant has now reportedly sacked more employees. As per updates, this time, Amazon has laid off employees in the gaming division, adding to the growing number of tech layoffs. 

According to a Bloomberg report, Amazon.com Inc. has laid off about 100 employees in its video-game divisions as a part if its broader policy of cost-cutting measures. This move has now impacted employees working at Prime Gaming, Game Growth and the San Diego studio.

The information about this round of Amazon layoffs has been given to employees via an official memo. As per the publication, in the memo, Amazon Games Vice President Christoph Hartmann wrote, “Our resources will be aligned to support our focus on content......Going forward, we will continue to invest in our internal development efforts, and our teams will continue to grow as our projects progress."

These Amazon layoffs come at a time when the company already announced about cutting close to 9,000 jobs. In 2022, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that the layoffs at the tech giant would easily continue till 2023 as the company is trying to not just cut its costs but also expend in strategic areas.

According to Bloomberg’s report, Amazon’s gaming group is not just seeing layoffs but also an ‘executive turnover. It reads, “Hartmann’s predecessor, Amazon Game Studios boss Mike Frazzini, stepped down last year. Veteran gaming executive John Smedley, who helped run the San Diego office, announced plans to leave in January.”
