In a time when job cuts are rampant, e-commerce giant Flipkart has come forward and refuted the stance of ‘mass layoffs.’ As per reports, Flipkart’s chief people officer Krishna Raghavan has said no to ‘mass layoffs.’
According to a report in Livemint.com, Raghavan said that Flipkart is not among those companies that hire thousands and then lays off only to reduce the headcount. “We do responsible hiring and there are no mass layoffs happening at Flipkart,” the publication quoted Raghavan as saying.
The report adds that Flipkart’s decision to not give hikes to senior management will also not lead to any job cuts. On this, Raghavan clarified that the decision has been taken as last year, a hike and promotion cycle happened, which was followed by a stock option buyback plan.

“We don’t hire in thousands and then land up figuring out that we have too many people on board and resort to extreme measures……..We are very thoughtful and deliberate on how we do workflows planning in general,” the report quoted Raghavan as saying on mass layoffs and delayed hiring.
Flipkart has also insisted that unlike several other IT and tech companies, it has not delayed the hiring and on-boarding of freshers from engineering and management schools. As a result, freshers are reportedly expected to join Flipkart in June, as per the schedule.
Adding further and explaining about increments, as per the report, he also said, “As we expand our business portfolio, and grow in the marketplace, this is a tremendous opportunity and potential for us, and we’ll constantly revisit how we look at increments in the subsequent years. We do have liquidation opportunities that we offer to our employees almost every year.”
