All these popular Indian names have been featured under the 'shapers' category of the Time's 100, underlining India's contribution to the AI industry

The Time Magazine has released the list of the top 100 global leaders in artificial intelligence (AI). Prominent names to have been included in the list are Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and Alphabet, Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft and Rohit Prasad, the senior vice president and head scientist of Artificial General Intelligence at Amazon.

Among the Indian names are Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology ,Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and chairman of EkStep and actor Anil Kapoor.

All these popular Indian names have been featured under the 'shapers' category of the Time 100, underlining India's contribution to the AI industry.

Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw is in the vanguard of India's AI regulatory and infrastructural development. He has played a very important role in developing and shaping the country's AI landscape. Vaishnaw, at the Global IndiaAI Summit in July, stated the need for a holistic regulation to implement necessary safeguards and address the risks associated with AI.

Anil Kapoor

Anil Kapoor's inclusion in the list shows the convergence of AI with entertainment and legal rights. Kapoor recently won the legal case in a New Delhi court against unauthorised use of his likeness by AI.

The court reportedly ordered 16 entities prohibiting the use of Kapoor's name, likeness, voice and other personal attributes for commercial purposes. It also directed domain name providers to suspend websites using Kapoor's name and told the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to remove fake videos of the actor as per reports.

Nandan Nilekani

Nandan Nilekani is a pioneer in AI and continues to drive advancements in technology through his role at EKStep. EKStep is a non-profit organisation dedicated to developing digital public goods. The co-founder of Infosys says that India should focus on creating AI use cases that benefit every citizen and should not chase the development of large language models (LLMs).
