Delhi Police Gets Special Badge On Truecaller; Here’s How It’ll Help Fight Cyber Fraud 

The collaboration between Delhi Police and Truecaller is expected to help combat cyber fraud in a better manner

Delhi Police signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with caller identity verifier Truecaller on Tuesday in a bid to strengthen its fight against cyber frauds and other crimes resulting from impersonation of people. As a result of this deal, all official contact numbers presented by the Delhi Police will receive a special green badge and blue tick on Truecaller platform which will allow all users of Truecaller to identify Delhi Police officials.  

This agreement is expected to help combat cyber fraud in a better manner. Sanjay Singh, special commissioner, licensing and legal division, media cell, Delhi Police, told ANI, “Our caller IDs will have a green badge, blue tick & a govt badge so whosoever calls & receives calls from our side will be notified that it's Delhi Police to help gain people's trust. We've collaborated in view of recent impersonation cases.”

The new verification badge for police officials on Truecaller which help users differentiate between actual officials and criminals impersonating the police. This collaboration will also help in creating digital awareness and training Delhi Police officers against cybercrime, Singh added.  

Pragya Misra, director of public affairs at Truecaller, said, “Through our collaboration with Delhi Police, we want to able to tackle impersonation...you will see now if any Delhi Police representative calls you there will be green badge or blue tick so that when you receiving the call as a citizen you will know that you are talking to police office no body impersonating you as leading to frauds.”

Additionally, Delhi Police can furnish numbers of criminals, who have harassment, scam and other similar complaints against them, to Truecaller so that the caller ID verification platform can caution its users against possible scam or harassment.
