Vinay Choletti, former India Head of Whatsapp Pay, is in talks to join Tata Digital's payment business, sources have told the Economic Times. Choletti had quit the top position at Whatsapp Pay earlier this month after having spent only 4 months at the position.
Tata Digital has been in the process of building its in-house payments platform. It also houses Tata's ecommerce super-app called Tata Neu which is aiming to take on Amazon and Flipkart, as well as other new players in the ecommerce space such as Reliance's JioMart. Recently, Tata Digital had witnessed the exits of two senior executives—Sharath Bulusu and Prateek Mehta.

Prior to joining Whatsapp Pay, Choletti was part of Amazon India for over 7 years, working on the Amazon Pay operations and even heading their small- and medium-size business payments vertical. Choletti has also worked at ITC, American Express, Citi Bank and Mashreq Bank previously.
Manesh Mahatme, who headed Whatsapp Pay India before Choletti, had resigned in September to join Amazon India.
Several senior executives have left the India office of Meta, Whatsapp's parent company, in the past few months. This includes Abhijit Bose who was WhatsApp India Chief; Rajiv Aggarwal who resigned as Meta India's Public Policy Director and Ajit Mohan who was Head of Meta India.
